James Van Der Beek, mostly known for his role on TV series Dawson’s Creek, took to Twitter yesterday with a brave confession, in light of the Harvey Weinstein allegations. According to James, when he was young, he was sexually harassed in Hollywood.
The 40-year-old James Van Der Beek, who we all love ever since his role on groundbreaking 90’s series Dawson’s Creek, decided to open up following the sexual misconduct allegations towards mega-producer Harvey Weinstein.
“What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal”, James wrote on Twitter. “What he’s admitted to is unacceptable – in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out.”
Then, James went on to expose the sexual harassment that he had to endure in his past.
“I’ve had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I’ve had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger…
I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There’s a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome.”

And while sexual assault on women is more common, we should all remember that men can – and do – suffer from it as well, and no one should stay silent when witnessing something like that.
Meanwhile, if you want to see more of James Van Der Beek, he’s starring in a new comedy series – What Would Diplo Do?, available on Viceland.
