Tommy Dorfman, the 25-year-old openly gay actor who also played a gay character on Netflix’ popular teen drama 13 Reasons Why, opens up in a new interview about his fame, being openly gay – and how to make it all work along with his marriage.
Tommy Dorfman (who is not the only openly gay star on 13 Reasons Why – Brandon Flynn recently came out as well) spoke with Schön! magazine , as JustJared reports. His sexual orientation came up, naturally.
“Maybe I’ve limited my opportunities by being so open about my sexuality, but my thinking is that, if I come out of the gates this way, then it’s not really going to be a big deal in a couple of years.”
Speaking about the fame that comes with such a popular show, Tommy says it’s “interesting to be in a position where I suddenly have a following and a platform” – but it’s not his goal in life – “I didn’t become an actor to have a million Instagram followers.”

Tom has a husband, Peter, who he married back in 2016 – and life as a married celebrity isn’t always easy.
“I’m married and, just since this show’s come out, I have a certain lack of anonymity. I’m still coming to terms with [that] and figuring out how to move forward with all these components. I definitely don’t have it figured out. I’m just trying to stay on the boat”
