When you’re in a long, meaningful relationship, you usually expect it to last forever. And even more so, when you get an engagement ring. YouTuber Calum McSwiggan had it all – but then, out of nowhere – everything just stopped.
When I was 16 I met another gay guy for the first time. And I remember thinking he was the most perfect human being in the whole planet.
We ended up in a relationship. I felt like I literally could not live without this guy and he became my whole world. We moved in together, we got a flat together, we shared the same friends, his life and my life were the same.
On my 21st birthday, He invited me to this bar for a birthday meal, and when I showed up all my friends jumped up and surprised me. It was the best birthday ever.
But then, my boyfriend started giving a speech, and started talking about how I was the most special person he ever met and he couldn’t bear to be apart from me.
Hearing these words I got really emotional and I started crying happy tears. And then, out of nowhere he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him.
It was probably the happiest moment of my life. I was completely lost for words. I was sobbing with tears. I cannot express how that made me feel. Everything in my life had been building to this moment.
Obviously I said yes.
And then – six months later… he decided to take his ring back.
And we broke up, and it felt like my whole world had fallen apart… And it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
