Remember “Jesus” from The Walking Dead, who appeared last season, then kind of disappeared, and now re-appeared on our screen? Well, in the original comics, Jesus is gay – and the actor playing him on TV, Tom Payne (who would be so much hotter if he just lost the beard… sorry, had to slip that in), would love for it to be the same on the show.

So far, the question of Jesus’ sexuality hasn’t been addressed on the TV version of The Walking Dead. We’ve had lesbians on the show, and we’ve had Aaron, a low-key gay character (with a boyfriend!) – but fans are eager for Jesus to come out as well, being the bad-ass that he is.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, The 33-year-old Payne was asked how he would feel about Jesus being gay on the show. “I think that would be amazing”, he answered, and recalled creator Robert Kirkman’s past comments on the issue, saying “Who cares? He’s a badass and he happens to be gay”.

I think that’s one of the strongest things about Robert [Kirkman] and how he writes the comic books. Why wouldn’t he be? And I see no reason why that would be different in the show.

Now, we just need to wait and see. Until then, here’s Jesus in all his glory:

Here’s Tom in a recent Walking Dead convention with a very particular flag:

And to make my point about the beard…
